Kai Lossgott

Kai Lossgott is a reclusive South African writer and artist known to climb trees in public and swim in city fountains.  Apart from writing poetry, he works in video, performance and experimental film. German by birth (1980), South African by upbringing, he currently lives and works in Cape Town. He is the author of “Maps to Get Lost by”, a 60 000 word unpublished novel.  His poetry has been published in local journals such as LitNet, Botsotso, Green Dragon, and Ons Klyntjie.  He is known for his performance collaborations on Infecting the City 2009, Badilisha Poetry X-Change! 2009 and the Cape 09 Biennale.

Kai’s work has been widely exhibited as part of numerous South African art award shows, and shown at experimental film festivals on five continents.  One of his three tertiary qualifications, all cum laude, is an MA in Creative Writing from the University of Cape Town.  He has lectured at various South African universities and facilitated community arts projects.
