Dirk Badenhorst

Dirk Badenhorst is a South African dancer and dance therapist. He started his professional ballet career with CAPAB Ballet Company and also danced with the Performing Arts Company of Transvaal (PACT) Ballet Company. Following his time with the classical ballet companies, he danced and toured with Danza Lorca Spanish Dance Company and the Josè and Helena Montoya Spanish Dance Company. After the closure of the State Theatre and its performing entities, Dirk was instrumental in establishing The South African Ballet Theatre, the first truly independent professional ballet company in South Africa. Dirk travels extensively, locally and internationally, to ensure that he stays in touch with the latest developments in the world of dance and to initiate exchange programmes. In the process he has established himself as an internationally recognised role-player.

He initiated and is the CEO and Artistic Director for the South African International Ballet Competition. He currently directs the only full-time Ballet and Dance Academy in South Africa. He managed his own Movement Therapy practice and currently lectures Dance and Movement Therapy as a subject for the University of Pretoria’s Masters Degree in Music Therapy.
